Part 2 - Your Doctors said that “You will never have your voice back to normal ever again.” We said… “TRY US!”

Completeion of 30 hours of non-surgical voice repair.

- Case Study #2: Brenda Mooers of Calgary, Alberta Canada -

Brenda arrived to our establishment on November 1st 2018. She is a 51 year old woman who has been going through hormonal changes. Sometime prior to inquiring about our services, Brenda went to a medical doctor and presented her problem to him.

Her doctor prescribed testosterone needles, which had to be administered to Brenda by her husband on an everyday basis. But… incidentally, the doctor prescribed a triple dose of the latter (3 milligrams instead of 0.3 milligrams). Moreover, this very doctor never ordered a blood test to detect the exact amount of testosterone she would actually need (if any…?).

So our doomed client diligently followed her doctor’s wrong instructions and suddenly discovered that her voice tone dropped 3 levels below her normal voice; and at that lower level position, her voice started to crack and then became raspy and hoarse. Moreover, she started growing body and facial hair…!

How scary is that?
Scary indeed!

Then, on the premise of her now-damaged voice, she went to the ENT specialist and then back to her physician. They both stated that her voice will never get back to normal…

Before reaching us, she tried everything and anything, everybody and anybody, but with no avail.

So in order to bring her voice back to normal and make it sound even better, we had to run (within 6 consecutive days) 30 hours of our very unique and innovative voice instruction (via the Vocal Science™ method and technique), coupled with certain body movements and specifically-administered natural herbs and some homeopathic remedies.

Was this an easy journey? - NOT AT ALL!

My former voice repair client from Denver Colorado USA once said: “Diana, I agree… You are indeed trying to teach the ‘old dog the new tricks’.” Nonetheless, the older person is, the harder that person accepts the new modality of any new behaviour.

Moreover, for the mature person, it is also harder to release any of the previously adopted habits. But, needless to say, this is yet another one of many of our success stories… Please click on the link HERE to read what we have gotten so far as a feedback from both Brenda and her husband Vernon.

By the way, we have to give applause to a very supportive and dedicated husband, who was present at all given times in the studio with us; not to mention was completely present and attentive to everything what was going on throughout the process of uncovering and recovering his wife’s voice.

Way to go Man!

For the rest of you, I would like to wish to have a partner in life like Brenda’s husband. And trust my experience; when you have somebody who supports you 100%, the sky is the limit!

As for yourself: If you suffer from any voice issues, voice disorders or vocal problems, and if, by any chance, you too were given a verdict which made you believe that you are at the point of no return, give us a chance to prove to you that WE GOT THIS… and we will never let you down!

They said that “You will never have your voice back to normal ever again.” We said… “TRY US!”

With the Vocal Science™ method and its own very unique vocal technique, we have proven quite a few medical professionals wrong!

- Case Study #1: Tim Bristol of Niagara Falls, New York -

The above-named non-surgical voice repair client of ours was given a “sentence” of “the point of no return”. The ENT professionals were stating that many of our clients (formally theirs) would never recover their speaking and/or singing voices ever again…

With the above in mind… let’s profile a throat cancer survivor named Tim Bristol.

Some time ago, he came to us seeking a viable solution for his very serious voice problem, after surviving throat cancer. Tim has been a musician, singer/songwriter (at the time) for over 45 years of his life. From his words, his whole life had mainly revolved around music. Also, from his words, while performing on many stages, which he was playing from, he saw nothing but “blue light”. So, needless to say, the constant second-hand smoke was inhaled by Tim, night in and night out… So at his early 60’s, he was diagnosed with cancer of the throat.

Tim, nonetheless, undergone many sessions of chemotherapy, as well as numerous radiation treatments. That left him with a very raspy and hoarse voice and with numbness (loss of sensation of touch) on his fingertips. In both instances, those were very devastating outcomes of the above-mentioned treatments, as not only Tim was a singer/songwriter, but he has also been a very prominent guitar and bass guitar player.

When he asked the doctors what he should do about that, they responded - “None of that matters… Please be grateful that you are alive!”. That was not good enough for Tim, as without playing his guitar and singing his songs in various bands as before, he did not see the meaning of his life down the road… So, he eventually found us. In just 10 hours of our private instruction and natural herbal treatment, he regained his voice. For maintenance, he also attended our healthy voice/vocal workshop, at that time, consisted of two full days of instruction. We concluded his recovery, located in our office plaza, Karaoke place. Once Tim sung a chosen-by-him song, he got a standing ovation.

The owner of the place came up to me and asked why I had been hiding such a great singer and never brought him to sing to his place before…? I revealed that he - along with my other voice repair client from Maryland, USA - were both just here with me for a few days to fix their voices. The owner of the establishment said: “Hahaha… Voice Repair…” - Which was clearly implied that I was actually not telling the truth. I was stunned for a minute, but then started to laugh, as it was a perfect testimonial for me - where the previous damage of my clients’ voices could not, at all, be detected!

Tim’s wife, who was also a singer/songwriter, was completely fascinated by the whole thing and came from Niagara Falls New York to visit us (just for a day) in order to personally witness this fascinating process herself.

At this moment, we are not in communication with Tim himself, which we presume is a good thing, because if he needed us, he would have found us by now. So, from our end, we are certain that he is all good and is continuing singing and playing music for many years and months ahead. From his own words, Tim said: “Diana, You had proved all those doctors wrong! My voice is getting better and better every day!”

Way to go, Tim!
Keep on Rockin’ Man!

Have you been saved from a vocal operation and have you gotten rid of your vocal cord nodule(s) non-surgically…? It’s Got To Be Vocal Science!

Case Study #2 - Todd, ORLANDO, Perusini

Todd ORLANDO Perusini came through our doors on February the 4th of 2008.

At the time, he was residing in Mexico (he was originally from Okanagan Valley, B.C.). He had a one-millimetre nodule on his right vocal cord. He was very disturbed by it, as his speaking voice (raspy and hoarse at the time) was affecting his very prominent real-estate career. But also, Todd’s biggest pleasure in life was to compose songs (primarily in Jazz style) and record his voice singing. Nonetheless, that too was greatly compromised.

Todd was suggested to undergo an immediate vocal operation. He, though, was super cautious and thus decided to try a non-surgical approach. Todd contacted us and, nevertheless, had given us quite a hard time with regards to convincing him that we could help him to get rid of his nodule non-surgically. Still being very cautious, he booked a non-surgical voice repair course and treatment for the minimum duration of only 10 hours.

I said to myself: “We’ll see about that…”. (Today’s minimum protocol for the described-above diagnosis is 30 hours of instruction and natural herbal and some homeopathic treatment). So after numerous phone discussions, I decided to give in and grant him his wish. He, in fact, called himself Orlando (rather than Todd) and when I inquired whether or not it was his real name, he said that it was, because “his mother was very creative”; and thus named him with this quite-original name…

I was out of town on February the 3rd (celebrating my birthday) and I got a call from a person named Todd. I have to say that I got a little puzzled, as I never expected anybody by the name Todd; I was expecting someone by the name Orlando… The call came from a downtown hotel in Toronto; and on my message machine, I was prompted to call a certain number which belonged to a certain room in that hotel. Needless to say, it was Orlando, whose real name happened to be Todd. ( As I mentioned before, I had no idea about that.)

Now, when the confusion was clarified, the next challenge came my way… Toronto and its suburbs, at that time, was swept by a violent snow storm. All the highways were closed overnight and there was no way for me to get back to Toronto for the commencement of his morning session the next day. Since Orlando/Todd did not “guess” to take his cell phone with him, our communication had to continue through his hotel room. I found that, by itself, it was quite odd (to put it politely.)

Anyways, the next day (a little later on in the day), our journey had begun… At that time, I mentioned to Todd that I was associating with a renowned-in-Russia ENT doctor. Here in Canada, that doctor was practicing more-so homeopathic treatments than anything else. At that time, I used my association with him for some more complicated cases than others, or (LOL) for more-so “paranoid” patients… So I decided to take Todd to see the doctor after only 6 hours (middle of the second day) of instruction and treatment with me.

I personally drove him and then sat in with him at the doctor’s office. When the doctor examined Todd, he said: “Oh… Your nodule is only half a millimetre and certainly does not require any surgery…” Todd was very pleasantly surprised and could not be happier, as he now was reassured, more than ever before, that he was on the right path with me.

When we came back for the second session within the same day, he revealed to me that he wanted to stay for 10 additional hours of my instruction and treatment. I said “sure”; and our voice repair journey continued. Primarily, those (now 20 hours in total ) were dedicated more-so to his speaking voice than his singing voice. To his credit, he was extremely dedicated to embracing the most knowledge out of my very intense and detailed instruction and treatment.

He later met my other associates and “drove them crazy” - to put it mildly… I advised Todd to practice his speaking voice in syllables (one of the regular routines in my practice). He took it quite literally; and from that point on, he spoke in syllables - and in syllables only - with whomever and wherever… LOL Todd, in my opinion, definitely had no inhibitions…

As odd as it was, it actually served him quite well. In May of 2008, I was travelling to the Middle East with a stopover in Amsterdam. While there, my little Fido Blackberry phone rang at 3:00 a.m. (local time). I opened one of my eyes and said, “ Royans School. May I help you?” To my surprise, I heard a clear male voice which I did not recognize… Needless to say, it was Todd’s.

I said: ”Wow! I can not believe how great you sound!” He said: “Yes, Diana. I was doing everything you told me to do and practiced a lot speaking in syllables…” Go figure! I asked him how was his singing voice? He said that it was not as good as speech, but he was working on it.

I have to mention that the mechanical application of the speaking and singing voice is exactly the same. On this note, I have to say that I did not doubt that Todd/Orlando (given his persistence) will be able to conquer that problem too.

So thereafter, I had not heard anything from him for the last 9 years. In November of 2017, I suddenly (while driving my car - ironically to a Nissan dealership to trade in my Volkswagen Eos for the Nissan Juke), got a phone call.

Who do you think that was…? It is easy to guess now…

It was Todd Orlando himself - thanking me to the ninth - with a perfectly good, clear and silky voice. He also revealed to me that he has been singing (practically full time with two bands) and also recorded CD with original songs composed by him. He also told me that he was going to write me a letter (you will see it below), and would forward to me his CD.

He also advised me that he wants me to publish his hand-written letter anywhere I would desire so that future generations would see it and would know that help is on its way. :)

Please stay tuned to hear the songs Todd/Orlando forwarded to us!

It will soon be available on our social media platforms!

Now…. Please read his very inspirational, and full of gratitude, letter below.

Thank you for reading.

Have you gotten rid of your vocal cord nodules, polyps or cysts non-surgically…? It’s Got To Be Vocal Science!

Case Study #1 - Sue D, former bleeding vocal cord polyp sufferer from Canmore, Alberta. Canada.
Please read below.

The Royans Institute for Non-Surgical Voice repair, which is a division of The Royans Professional Vocal School, for the last 3 and a half decades, has been receiving a lot of clients with various voice disorders.

The most common disorders that people have been suffering from are:
  • Polyps on the vocal cord(s)
  • Nodules on the vocal cord(s)
  • Cysts on the vocal cord(s)
  • Lesions on the vocal cord(s) and throat area.
  • Muscle Tension Dysphonia
  • Spasmodic Dysphonia
  • Sulcus Vocalis
  • VCD (Vocal Cord Dysfunction)
The above disorders are just to name a few…

Practically all of the patients who have been suffering from the above-mentioned voice/vocal disorders went anywhere and everywhere before reaching our enterprise. Some of them had undergone conventional treatments like Botox; others took numerous speech therapy sessions doing all kinds of manipulations with the sound of their voices - blowing the bubbles, blowing the Kazoo and paying a “gazillion” amount of money for their throat massage…? To my knowledge, none of the above had ever helped anybody with their voice problem - let alone singers with singing voice problems.

One of our potential clients revealed to us that somebody in the field (however, conventional) supposedly helped him to dissolve a small polyp by undergoing “steam inhalations" and what have you. He came to us for an Introductory/Exploratory Session with pictures of his vocal cords’ condition at the present time. Within the images, it was clear that he possessed a huge polyp on one of his vocal cords and it looked like that it was a hemorrhaging one. He, before that, while making an appointment for his session with us, was bragging about that previous person who “helped” him with the first (almost non-existent) polyp - which he also showed us on the picture which was taken at that time.

We asked him why he would not want to go to the same voice professional he went to originally? He said that the previous person did not teach him anything - and therefore, by continuing speaking and especially singing in the same fashion, he felt an obvious obstruction on his vocal anatomy. And then, concurrently, he found out that he had a fair-sized vocal cord polyp at the same place on the vocal cord where the original polyp had been discovered…

The moral of the above is that “there is no change without change”.

So if there is a growth on the vocal cord, that means that the patient had been consistently doing something wrong to acquire it, i.e., most likely, overusing and misusing his speaking and singing voice, using a lot of force and trying to reach notes that are out of his range; evidently, not knowing how to properly approach it.

As I always said before, the speaker (and more so, the singer) represents the “instrument” and the “player”. Even if the vocal surgery was performed and the polyp was removed, the application of the speaking and/or singing voice had never been changed. So the “player” had never been taught how to change it to the point where the voice (speaking and singing) would work most efficiently, but without any harm to one’s vocal anatomy. Until the above is achieved, it is almost guaranteed that the polyp or nodule, lesion or cyst, will come back - and also may come back in multiple quantities!

So now, we would like to shed some light on how we could non-surgically go about it:

Our non-surgical voice repair treatment consists of a minimum of 30 hours of very vigorous and detailed instruction, coupled with the application of thoroughly-selected herbal (and some homeopathic) remedies. Once the 30 hours are complete, for the next few months, the patient should strictly follow the assigned protocol to avoid any negative aftermath. If the above conditions are not met, the voice disorder may return to its original state and prevail even further from there.

The Toronto Star newspaper, in their article Not as Easy as it Sounds (1999), said that “this regimen is definitely not for the faint of heart”. I added that it is also not for people with a low attention span and/or low stamina.

Recently, in May of 2018, we received a client suffering from a bleeding polyp on her vocal cord. We now call her our “role model”, as she was very attentive during her 30-hour Vocal Science™ course and Healthy Voice/Vocal Workshop - which she had also attended during her time with us. Even though that she left very happy and satisfied, we, however, had not heard anything from her up until the last few days (5 months later).

At this time, she revealed to us that she was given a “clean bill of health”, as her polyp was declared to be completely gone! Her speaking and singing voice got back to normal and better than before - (She came to us with a pretty raspy and hoarse voice). This person, whose name is Sue, originally was recommended to undergo a vocal surgery.

We would also like to note that her livelihood and her career all-and-all revolves around music. So she is back to her duties singing, teaching music and conducting her chorus.

Way to go, Sue!
Keep on rocking, Girl!

Below, please see for yourself her amazing post-course letter which was addressed to us!

I came to you with a hemorrhagic vocal polyp and with intense vocal fatigue. Surgery had been recommended and I was on the wait list for that surgery. I was getting hoarse quickly and my range was diminished from what I know I can produce as a singer. Speaking wore me out in no time. I went to Ontario with the attitude that if this experience did not fix me, at least I would be in a stronger place to recover after surgery. I spent 30 hours with Diana one on one, and she worked me extremely hard. It was exhausting and at times frustrating, but I clung to her words (and still cling to them) - "Ahead and only ahead".
Since that experience in May, I have not experienced vocal fatigue almost at all. (once or twice when my overall self was fatigued). My voice has been reliable and I am able to teach, direct my choir and interact with my family as I used to before the injury. My singing voice has been dramatically strengthened and is more reliable although it is still on its way back to where it was. I am blown away by the results of my time working with Diana. What's more, I went last week for another scope of my vocal cords and the hemorrhagic polyp that was so clearly there in February is entirely gone. It has dissolved completely.

Diana told me to expect this but I will be honest and say that I did not expect it, and I am so deeply thankful. Working with Diana was at times very difficult, but her unshakeable confidence that we can achieve results non-surgically pushed through and has been proven - in many other testimonies and now in mine.
I wish you all the best, with gratitude.
Ahead and only ahead.

Could you increase your vocal range without even attending any sessions at The Royans Professional Vocal School?

The answer to the above is Yes, because... we got it down to the Science!

On this note, we would like to share with you a blog with an unexpected testimonial from Mr. Brian Ellis Sales Manager of Newmarket Infiniti Nissan -  Also a guitar player and vocalist.

Please read below.

"I have been playing music for over 23 years and singing for the last 5 years somewhat seriously. I met Diana as a customer at Newmarket Nissan when she came in to look at purchasing a Nissan Juke, which if you have met Diana is the perfect vehicle for her personality!  As it turns out, from my time playing in bands over the years we actually know a few of the same people and ended up having a lot to talk about with regards to the music industry. Through this conversation and speaking to Diana about how she helps her clients, I picked up a few singing tips that I decided to try out on my own. Just implementing the small amount of knowledge I picked up through these conversations I was able to increase my range by about two tones, which is something that I hadn’t been able to improve on at all over the previous 5  years of trying! I was convinced my range was just limited to what I could previously sing, so the ability to increase it by two tones was very intriguing to me. I look forward to doing a few full sessions with Diana in the future to see how much more I can improve my singing ability and range!"
- Brian Ellis

Below is the pre-history of our meeting with Brian Ellis:

Last year, I was attending to my vice repair client (named Ben Lee) who happened to be a finance manager of Nissan Canada. Needless to say, I successfully fixed his speaking voice and, through my workshops, even taught him how to sing.

Ever since Ben Lee has been traveling across North America with motivational speeches for Nissan everywhere.
In the interim, driving a hard-roof convertible (the Volkswagon EOS), I managed to hit a dear (or more accurately, a female dear had actually
ranacross my car and hit my car - and respectively, me in it).
The car was immediately towed to a Newmarket body shop...?
That action initiated by my insurance company really puzzled me.

Why you may ask?

Because my whole front (the hood), after the impact, was totally raised up and all of the mechanical parts of the car were out of wack -The engine, the breaks and everything that was located under the hood.
Given the above, I would assume that the car had to be towed to the Volkswagon dealership, so the mechanical parts of it would be addressed first before fixing the body of the car -  and before making it clean and shiny...
Needless to say, the body shop was unable to fix the car and had sent it to Volkswagon three times over. However, in the final analysis, the car was never the same after the accident.

In fact, on a parallel track, when I hear that people (especially singers) run to the speech therapists (who never sung a note in their entire lives) to fix their singing voice, that makes me wonder...
That is basically consistent with a car which needs the mechanical issues to be addressed, being sent to a body shop...?

It would indeed be funny if it was not so sad!
So my former client, Ben Lee, (finance manager of Nissan Canada), witnessing me being upset about the latter, offered to help me to buy, this time, a new Nissan car.

That happened to be the Nissan Juke.

And as Brian had mentioned in his write-up, this car indeed fits my personality.
So Brian and I met to put the deal together and hit it off right away, speaking about music, singing and life in general. In fact, I have to say that I had many cars over the 32 years that I have been driving and thus attended many dealerships including the Mercedes ones.

On this note, I have to say that the Nissan dealership in Newmarket is the most pleasant and welcoming place out of all of them, not to mention Brian Ellis himself. So if any of you are looking for a new car and wonderful, very knowledgeable and very helpful people, call Brian and you will get the service of a lifetime!

I am extremely pleased with my car, with getting to know Brian and the rest of the dealership, including people in service and parts.

Way to go guys! I will recommend you to anybody and everybody at all given times!

How can Vocal Cord Problems (Vocal Cord Dysfunction) cause Problems with your Speech? What can be done to fix it?

Your vocal cords (within your voice box) are not just strings… They are a delicate form of fold tissues (muscles) with a very thin lining on the outside. And just like any other tissues within the body, if not taken care of properly, they can get damaged. Normally, when people start to exhibit vocal cord problems, they don’t notice or find the need to address it until the problems (like strained vocal cords, bleeding vocal cords or other forms of vocal cord damage) becomes severe enough to warrant a visit to the doctor or a qualified voice specialist.

Vocal cord dysfunction (VCD) happens when the vocal cords are unable to open properly. This is also referred to as paradoxical vocal fold movement. VCD is sometimes confused with asthma as some of the symptoms are very similar.

With VCD, the vocal cords close instead of opening up, when you breathe in and out. This closer of your vocal cords makes it harder to get air in and out of your lungs.

Signs and symptoms

  • Feeling short of breath
  • A frequent cough or clearing your throat
  • Inability to speak loudly
  • Breathy voice
  • Choking or coughing while having your meal
  • Limited pitch and loudness variations
  • Voicing that last only for a short interval of time

Many clients who complain about one of the above problems can consult with their doctor to determine the underlying cause. However, they have been told that they don't have any physical problems. There are no cures or pills to stop the aforementioned vocal issues. In order to take care of your voice, you must know how to use it wisely and accurately - especially, when you are a voice professional like a teacher, singer, actor or a broadcast personality.

What can cause VCD?

There are many different causes of vocal cord problems which are often hard to diagnose. The reason behind this dysfunction can be an upper respiratory infection, tobacco smoke, post nasal drips, acid reflux, reaction to strong odors or fumes, etc.

Treatment for VCD

The best way of finding out what can be done to treat VCD is to consult with a voice and speech specialist who specializes in the treatment of voice problems - and this is where The Royans Institute for Non-Surgical Voice Repair can help.

With specialized treatment methods (created by the master non-surgical voice repair specialist  Diana Yampolsky), they provide an alternative form of voice/speech therapy that is specifically designed to treat many of today's vocal problems - especially problems that involve vocal cord dysfunction. With nearly 45 years of experience under their belt, they can assure that the techniques you'll learn under their care will help you to restore and improve the quality of your speaking (and if needed singing) voice.

We are Natural, Alternative and Holistic Practitioners, Specializing in Non-Surgical Voice Repair and other Health-Related Problems.

Dear reader of mine, please note that we are exactly who we are. Please read the title carefully!

We are not doctors and we are certainly not magicians… However, if we could say so ourselves (not to mention at least 25,000 people who have passed through our doors for over 35 years), the results that we produce (whereas nobody else possessed experience and expertise comparable to ours) are truly the miracles which are happening on a regular basis while our clients being under our care.

Stating the above with absolute confidence, we have to note and must say that those miracles which are being produced on a regular basis, are definitely not a one-sided affair.

We are and have been employing our revolutionary Vocal Science™ method and its very unique (in its nature) technique. But while delivering the message, we require from our clients an absolute compliance, consistency and ultimate frequency attending our sessions.

All of the above will absolutely assure the recovery and restoration of one’s voice. Nonetheless, "it takes two to tango” so to speak. Everybody knows that, nowadays, the world has gone exponentially crazy… to put it mildly. After my trip to the UK, I personally came to a conclusion that now the word “crazy” would be an understatement, as the word INSANE would be exactly in order…

Let me tell you a little more about my experience while I was there:

My first original client was a singer/songwriter who, not too long ago, got diagnosed with a polyp on his vocal cord. I, in fact, said in a few of my previous blogs that “I am not, per say, concerned about your voice/vocal problems. I am concerned about you”…? What do you mean by that - you, my reader, may ask?

Let me explain that to you to the best of my knowledge. In the year 1999, our prominent newspaper, named The Toronto Star” wrote an article about me and my practice. The name of the article is “Not as Easy as it Sounds” The author of this article mentioned that, by her observations, (she has been taking a lesson herself while writing) that the whole process is definitely “not for the faint of heart”. I added, at the time, that “it is also not for the people which below-average IQ”.

Now, besides the above statements, I came to the conclusion that it is not also for the person with unstable emotions, as well as with nonexistent physical fitness and or balance for that matter.

The fact is that the Vocal Science™ method is indeed an integration and synergy between the mental, physical, emotional and vocal components. It requires an “installation” of a wholesome mechanism which allows the voice to work in the fullest capacity possible and with no strain or pain on the vocal anatomy.

This mechanism consists of very viable components such as:

  • Lower abdominal muscles, which play the role of the voice-lift support.
  • Upper diaphragm muscles (rib cage), which are very instrumental with respect to building the body of the sound.
  • The facial muscles (sinus cavities) will harbor and secure the sound within their chambers.
  • And lastly, all of the above will assure the projection of the sound to its aimed destination.
Now, my reader reading the above, you are probably getting the idea that it is “Not as easy as it sounds”… Indeed!

Given our digital “progress”, people are becoming completely nonphysical, as the majority of their time, they are spending on the internet and on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.

Given that, it is getting harder and harder to make them “walk and chew the gum at the same time” in a manner of speaking. In our case, we need to make them walk and produce the sound while concurrently using the body movements - which are extremely instrumental in achieving the success for producing the ultimate voice quality (broken or not).

So my UK client with the polyp on his vocal cord which, according to him, he acquired while vigorously yelling at his mother and sister (not to mention his wrong approach to voice mechanics while singing), assumed that his polyp will fall out off of his vocal cord the minute I would land in London’s Heathrow airport… I was not sure whether to laugh or to cry on that statement.

But, suppressing my own emotions, I attempted to put some sense into my doomed client and began my usual routines. The course and treatment were supposed to last for 30 hours with two sessions a day - totaling 5 hours on each day. With all of his very unstable behavior (consistent with, minimum to say, bipolar behavior) I was able to achieve half of the protocol (15 hours).

I did invite him to Toronto to finish what we had started; but warned him that if I witness anything remotely reminding me of my visit to his neck of the woods, the course would be discontinued immediately and to the point of no return. Prior him coming to us here, I did advise him to get his “head examined” via seeing a professional counselor - and thus to try to put a “handle” (so to speak) onto his excessive and unstable emotions…

I guess we shall see…

Now I am going to tell you about my second client there in the UK.

The lady of 86 years of age arranged with me what we call introductory/exploratory session, duration of which is 2 hours. She had her parathyroid glands removed 5 years ago and as a result of the latter, her right vocal cord had gotten paralyzed. Since then she had undergone 2 vocal surgeries which did not improve her voice quality at all.

Within less than 2 hours I managed to get her counting from 1 to 5 with a practically normal sounding voice!! He daughter was present in my hotel room and she kept exclaiming “Mom, I can totally hear the improvement”! Her daughter was saying over and over that before my intervention, they had never heard any improvement what so ever!

Then they left and early next morning I got a phone call where my “doomed” client revealed to me that she was a little disappointed and therefore she did not think that it would actually justify the money she would have to pay for further sessions.

Go figure…!

To tell you the truth, I was stunned - to put it mildly!!

Firstly, not only due to a “butcher” surgery her vocal cord was paralyzed, but employing all of my extensive experience and expertise, I could hear that her whole right side of her vocal anatomy was damaged exponentially; and not only it was clearly dysfunctional, but practically, it was nonexistent.

How sad is that?
Sad indeed!

In my nonetheless vivid visualization, I saw a “half-butchered cow” in preparation for a “slaughter”; and the other half was somewhat “mooing”…

The above is a mild description of her vocal anatomy condition. For example; let’s, for a second, visualize a person who got their leg amputated… Can any magic, or science for that matter, will grow a new leg for that person?

Absurd! - you, my reader, may exclaim. It is indeed! But my so-called “doomed client” was expecting nothing less than that… and, nevertheless, the magic would have to happen within two hours of the Introductory/Exploratory session.

Let me explain to you what I mean by the term of Introductory/Exploratory session:

That session is designed to introduce a potential client to the Vocal Science™ method and its revolutionary technique. Also, it consists of certain tests and explorations (finding what works and what does not).  And lastly, during that session, analyzing the above, the best course of action would be defined and thus implemented into the further instructional, combined with natural treatment, sessions.

At the beginning of this blog, I mentioned that the world, nonetheless, went from the definition of crazy to the definition of insane. After this UK trip, I am, unfortunately, completely convinced that we just dropped down to another level of craziness… How scary is that…?

I could compare it with the absolute nightmare, but hoping one day to wake up from this horror-dream and experience the world in all of its beauty, as I once did in the past.

Amen to that!!

The Role of Alternative Speech Therapy in the Holistic Treatment of Voice Problems affected by Acid Reflux.

No one likes dealing with acid reflux. Problems like indigestion, sour taste in your mouth, and difficulty in swallowing are all very uncomfortable effects of acid reflux. But did you know that acid reflux can even cause voice loss? This is called Reflux Laryngitis.

Reflux laryngitis is mainly caused by stomach acid coming up into the esophagus and thus irritating the larynx. This can cause the chronic swelling of the vocal folds and hoarseness.

- What is Acid Reflux?

Acid reflux occurs when stomach acid and contents travel up into the esophagus and possibly into the throat. Common signs include a sour/bitter taste in mouth, burping, nausea, and difficulty in swallowing.

- Causes of Acid Reflux

A persistent reflux can be caused by obesity, diet, food sensitivities and certain behaviors such as bending over, lying down or singing/high volume speaking immediately after eating. There are also theories that acid reflux is caused by underproduction of stomach acid. Also, never underestimate the role of stress and the role of anxiety; both of which could play a harmful role in your health.

- Symptoms of Acid Reflux

  • Scratchy throat/ feeling of something stuck in the throat
  • Bitter taste in your mouth, especially in the morning
  • Bad voice quality in the morning
  • A chronic cough and/or a sore throat
  • Feel as though there is something stuck in your throat
  • Prolonged warm-up time needed for the voice
  • Reduced pitch range
  • Chronic throat clearing

- Diagnosis and Treatment

We have a specialized method for dealing with acid reflux consisting of unique voice/vocal instruction and natural herbal treatment. This form of treatment is designed to get to the root of the cause, rather than treating solely its symptoms.

An Alternative Method of Speech Therapy may be the answer for the Treatment of a Raspy and Hoarse Voice.

Has the quality of your voice been compromised due to chronic hoarseness?

If you are suffering from this ever-growing voice problem, The Royans Institute for Non-Surgical Voice Repair can help to fix it.

- Before we go into what it takes to completely eliminate hoarseness, we must gain a better understanding of what exactly it is. So to make things clear, hoarseness is a symptom, not a disease. It is an abnormal change in your voice caused by a variety of conditions. Due to these conditions, the voice may exhibit a change in pitch and volume, ranging from a deep, harsh voice to a weak raspy voice. The most common cause for this is what is known as acute laryngitis (inflammation of the vocal cords) which is most often caused by an upper respiratory tract infection (usually viral), and it also can be caused by overuse or misuse of the voice (like singing loudly or yelling).

If you tend to use your voice a lot and are experiencing hoarseness, the strain on your voice (essentially the strain on your neck and vocal cords) can be treated with the help of an experienced alternative voice specialist.

We, at The Royans Institute for Non-Surgical Voice Repair, are providing the unique services of voice restoration. We are based out of Toronto, Ontario Canada. We also provide a specialized method of voice enhancement. It is known as the Vocal Science™ method and technique.

With this revolutionary program, created and conducted by our world-renowned Master voice/vocal coach/voice repair specialist, Diana Yampolsky, we are able to offer industry-leading, non-invasive treatment options for those who suffer from various voice problems, speech problems and or vocal disorders.

How can this information help with Chronic Hoarseness?

The core of this form of voice therapy resides in the rule of fact - in order to treat the symptoms of a problem (in this case, hoarseness) you must first find the underlying cause. And we are not just talking about the cause of the initial hoarseness… We are talking about a complete analysis of things that lead to the beginning of the hoarseness and how it has formed from then til now.

Also, in order to achieve desirable results with respect to proper voice restoration, the patient must be able to follow the voice repair specialist’s instructions to the letter.

For professional voice users and for everyday people, the method for proper voice restoration is as follows:

#1 The state of the patients mental and physical state is examined, noted and adjusted.

#2 Any bad habits which the voice repair specialist will identify during the voice repair process will be relayed to the patient and then those habits will be corrected on the spot.

#3 The correction of vocal projection, combined with the administration of specially-chosen natural herbs and remedies (designed to promote the natural healing of the vocal cords) will be introduced.

#5, further refinement of the patients’ voice quality will be introduced and implemented, allowing the patients to not only obtain a healthy voice but also to comply with the professional standards of speaking and or singing.

The above is a summary of the comprehensive restoration process which is conducted at The Royans Institute for Non-Surgical Voice Repair.

About us:

Information About Vocal Paralysis And Whether or Not It Could Be Treated Non-Surgically.

Every human, at some point in their lives, experiences a change when it comes to their voice. Some of those changes are natural & some changes are abnormal. Sometimes, those abnormal changes are so severe, they may even warrant an investigation with respect to finding out where the underline cause lies. This leads to the discovery of voice problems and what they signify with regards to one’s health. In this article, we will focus on a particular voice disorder known as vocal cord paralysis; it’s causes, symptoms and the options that are available in order to effectively treat it.

Vocal paralysis is a condition where one or both vocal cords are unable to move due to various factors – most of which derive from nerve damage (specifically, the nerves that activate the muscles within the vocal cords). In some cases, the above happens to stroke victims, throat cancer victims/survivors, brain cancer victims/survivors & to those who have other disorders that cause the muscles within their bodies to atrophy (including the vocal cords). Even certain forms of viral infections can play a role in causing vocal cord paralysis (in “favorable” conditions).

Given the main descriptions of the symptoms that may be causing this problem, may, in turn, lead to many other problems which, no doubt, will affect the daily life of the sufferer:

  • Natural speech will be moderately or greatly impaired
  • Difficulty getting employment in work fields that require voice use
  • Loss of confidence in one’s self with respect to living a meaningful life.

With the above stated, research is being conducted across the world with the intent of discovering further symptoms and all possible causes associated with this form of the vocal disorder.

Treatments for Vocal Paralysis ( Vocal paresis )

Treatments for this disorder will depend on the various factors that are associated with the above.
Factors like:
  • How long has the patient been suffering from the problem?
  • What is the severity level of the symptoms?
  • How long they have been present?

These questions must be addressed before advancing to the next step such as attending to this disorder with the full information.

With that in mind, advice will then be given based on every individual's condition.

Benefits of Non-surgical treatments

There is an effective form of voice repair and enhancement known as the Vocal Science™ Method and it is practiced and taught at The Royans Professional Vocal School & The Royans Institute for Non-Surgical Voice Repair. To find out what this method can do for those who suffer from vocal cord paralysis and other similar voice disorders, please see below:
  • That can non-surgically repair your vocal cords and the vocal box in general.
  • This is done by the virtue of learning how to minimize the use of your vocal cords and produce vocalization (your voice) by using a different set of muscles (such as the facial muscles working in full conjunction and coordination with the abdominal muscles).
  • This method will also allow your voice to naturally amplify itself due to the above equation.
  • With the help of natural herbs and supplements, the healing of damaged cells within your vocal cord(s)/vocal box will take place – it should also repair the damage which may be caused via any kind of surgery on your vocal anatomy).

For those who suffer from voice disorders like Vocal Paralysis and are in need of the best non-surgical voice treatment and care, contact us The Royans Institute for Nonsurgical Voice Repair and find out what can be done to rectify this very serious problem.
