Have you been a singer in the past, and had recently lost your voice? WE CAN HELP!!

Image
I have more and more inquiries from people who used to sing for some time in the past; and suddenly, (or at least so they thought), lost their singing range and some of them even lost their singing voice altogether . Now they are older and in their 40s (and counting), and they still cannot get a grip on the notion that their love and joy of singing might never be present again...? Quite a few years later after the occurrence, they had been still upset and even depressed about it.   Of course, they had been through numerous visits to doctors, speech therapists, pathologists and nevertheless many vocal coaches. However, in the majority of cases, it did not add up to any tangible, needless to say, expected results. With the above said, since they had lost their love and joy to be able to sing effortlessly and painlessly, their lives were never the same. Their passion and desire for expressing themselves, (telling their stories and expressing their emotions through singing), ha

Vocal Science: The Forensic Science…

Image
We are practicing alternative internal medicine while advocating the assurance of the best speaking/singing voice & nevertheless, non-surgical voice repair. We   Got   This!! Firstly , you, my reader, may wonder why we call Vocal Science the forensic science?  We do so because we are paying a great attention to the minutest details while working on the human voice (speaking or singing - damaged or not).  With our specially-designed speech and singing exercises, we build a, so to speak, “hurricane-proof” foundation for the future “house” to “stand on” and to be “built upon”…   Evidently, broken or not, and first of all the speaking voice (before the singing voice, if required to be worked on) has to be put in balance along with the person’s physical body, mind, and nevertheless the motor skills. To achieve the desired result while building the proper voice application (ultimate voice/vocal technique), especially with respect to the voice restoration, those aforementione

And due to that, they had acquired the power of wealth and some “mostly-fake” status.  On that premise, shortly after, they left their wives and children to stat a newly-found life with a new, younger femal

Voice Repair - Who Needs It and Why?

The Right and Healthy Modality of the Vocal Behaviour for Non-Singers. Being in the music and voice business for over four decades, I've met a lot of people with good voices, bad voices and also, so to speak, broken voices.  Some of them were singers, some of them had nothing to do with singing. Those who had nothing to do with singing, however, had a lot to do with a lot of speaking; and thus sometimes, they had been forcing their voices out and screaming from the top of their lungs and from the bottom of their throats...(basically, purely screaming)! Outside of the regular people, we are also talking about some professionals like: fitness instructors, martial arts instructors, teachers, lawyers, crown attorneys, public and motivational speakers to name a few. Due to their occupational (in a manner of speaking) hazard, they have been forcing their voices to serve others and one day, someday, their once precious voice seized on them "unexpectedly and out of the blue&q

Vocal Science: People With Voice/Vocal Injuries. Are They Afraid To Face Their Horrible Past?

Image
Lately, we have received (in our studio/clinic) a fair amount of people with various voice/vocal injuries caused by numerous forms of accidents. Some of them even had been in a coma for a number of months and their relatives were advised that they may never come out of it; and thus will continue their existence in a vegetative state… Thank God, some of them proved the doctors wrong and did come out not only from their coma, but even stood up and walked (almost on their own) from out of their wheelchairs… and, nevertheless, on their own two feet! How remarkable is that?  It is indeed! No doubt, those people went through a lot! On this note, it is easy to assume that they are real “troopers” and definitely, needless to say, survivors. Unfortunately, for many of them, outside of other physical challenges, their voice became an issue. Some of them literally lost the ability to talk at all or to talk normally. The conventional doctors, speech therapists and pathologists did

Non-Surgical Voice Repair… “Backed up” Voice Anyone? If So, You Obviously Need A "Plumber" To Fix It.

Image
My business, “ The Royans Professional Vocal School  and The Royans Institute for Non-Surgical Voice Repair ” use to be located in a quite prestigious area in the northeast part of Toronto, Canada. However, in the building where my studio was located, the washrooms were not kept up to standards, and the toilets, quite often, were backed up. To serve our clients better and provide them with safe and clean facilities, we had to contact the management of the building more often than we would have liked to. They fixed it…, and then, the saga began all over again... For the last 4 decades, I have been mostly specialising in Non-Surgical Voice Repair for speakers and singers. Quite a few of them had been coming into that very studio with shut-down voices and quite often, with, so to speak, shut-down bodies.  The memory brings one of my voice repair client's case: The person came from the US with a very low-drawn, hardly understandable, speaking voice, and

Voice Repair: Speaking and Singing – How One Affects the Other

Image
Some singers who come to me for non-surgical voice repair are not necessarily the professional singers. Which means, that a lot of them have a daytime job or even their own businesses.  Some of the professions require speaking on the phone all day, running meetings, doing presentations, and what not.  After an 8-hour workday, the part-time singers would rush to their band rehearsal or even to an outright performance.  Perhaps being vocally very talented but not, per se, knowing about the proper application of their voice, they put the enormous pressure on their vocal anatomy. So let’s examine that: They use their speaking voice excessively during the working day and then even more intensely during the night through the late hours.  While they’re speaking at work, they primarily are doing it from the sitting position with a slouched back, thus drowning their voice onto the bottom of their throats and below.  They establish the low voice speaking habit.  Then they go

Vocal Science - Do You Lisp, Or Lightly Stutter, Perhaps? We Can Help!

Image
I had a lot of speaking and singing students (especially in the past) with quite severe lisps and some stuttering. It is a known fact that when the stuttering person begins to sing, the stuttering disappears. But the objective here is to reduce that stuttering not just during singing, but also while speaking on an everyday basis. Similarly, when the person lisps and pronounces “F” instead of “S” (for example, “Fnow" instead of “Snow”). Over the years, by osmosis, I discovered that the Vocal Science Technique eliminated that lisp practically on the root, as by “biting above the air”, it produces sound which puts the voice in complete balance when it enters the facial cavities, provided that the lift to those cavities is supported by the abdominal muscles. The enunciation and pronunciation become crystal clear due to all the vowels and consonants getting placed in the right set of muscles. So when the support, structure, placement and projection of the voice is accom

Sulcus Vocalis (Vocal Cords Gap). How Could It Be Dealt With Employing Unconventional Vocal Science™ Method and its Revolutionary Voice/Vocal Technique?

Image
We, at The Royans Institute for Non-Surgical Voice Repair (luckily not too often), have been getting inquiries from speakers (professional and non-professional) as well as singers, who were experiencing the nasty symptoms and then, concurrently, had gotten diagnosed with a voice disorder named  Sulcus Vocalis .  Those sufferers usually experience a raspy/hoarse voice. They can also sound as if they even stutter a little (due to the enlarged gap between their vocal cords). That is because the sound of their voice (in a manner of speaking) falls in between their vocal cords/folds. Evidently, the timing of the vocal cords opening and closing (on certain occasions) does not always correspond with the actual voice formation. And, thus, the above-described symptoms are prevalent. By that point, the “alignment” between the subconscious mind, conscious mind, physical body and the actual voice, becomes exponentially challenged!   Actually, the total aim of the above described is to estab

Sulcus Vocalis (Vocal Cords Gap) - How Could it be Dealt with Employing Unconventional Methods and Techniques?

Image
Lately, more and more, we are getting inquiries from people concerned with their speech and/or singing problems; All of whom have been diagnosed with a voice disorder named Sulcus Vocalis. While being diagnosed with such a nasty voice disorder as Sulcus Vocalis, those sufferers usually possess a raspy and hoarse voice, which, sometimes, can even sound like a little stutter. The latter is usually caused by the enlarged gap located between the vocal cords (folds), and thus the sufferer's voice falls frequently between them.  In fact, the timing of the vocal cords opening and closing, in those cases, often does not correspond with the voice occurrence.  Naturally, it does require the “alignment” between the subconscious mind, conscious mind, physical body and the voice as an outcome.  All of the above is aimed to achieve the desired “alignment”, between the above-mentioned components and thus, to put the balance back in order. That could be accomplished by using specifically advo
