Unfortunately, only the minority of voice disorder sufferers do realize that conventional speech therapy, or even a vocal operation for that matter, would actually change anything… Due to the level of their intelligence, they do have the understanding that something went wrong with their vocal mechanics; which, nevertheless, have to be fixed and put back intact and, needless to say, back in balance. The benefits of alternative speech therapy for post-stroke survivors.

Image
A stroke is one of the most harmful experiences an individual can experience. When they happen, strokes will often cause temporary or permanent paralysis (nerve damage) to one or both sides of the human body. Sometimes, speech, memory, balance, cognition, and vision may also be affected. In addition, muscle spasms and pain are some of the most common issues that are associated with stroke. These issues often cause stroke survivors difficulties with respect of managing their daily tasks - like bathing and dressing. Therefore, it may be challenging for them to continue to manage the daily roles in their lives. One of the more serious complications of a stroke tends to be the difficulty in communication, which indeed causes difficulty with respect to talking with others. It is known that about 25 to 40% of stroke patients suffer from aphasia - a disorder that impairs one's ability to process language and their ability to speak. Aphasia also makes it challenging for a stroke su

We are your Health and Voice Consultants. Psychological aspects of Voice Disorders.

Lately, I have been receiving more and more clients who require non-surgical voice repair, along with psychological evaluation and some counselling with respect to their mental state...  The majority of those clients have been experiencing voice disorders like, for example, muscle tension dysphonia, spasmodic dysphonia and, needless to say, a multitude of other voice/vocal problems and issues. With our very hectic and stress-induced lives, a mass of sufferers (with the above-mentioned and other voice disturbances), had acquired their voice/vocal problems directly related to their highly stressed and, nevertheless, emotionally induced conduct. Some of the emotional stress is related to their business lives, but even more so commonly, it is related to their family lives. To give you an example: I have been presently working with two beautiful middle-aged women, who have had dysphonia disorders, whereas one of them had been diagnosed with spasmodic dysphonia and the other (who joined my

"Does It Smell In Here? A look at the current state of the speaking, coaching and consulting industry." by Larry Winget and Randy Pennington: (Click  HERE  to see the article.) - Our article is inspired by the one above - - I have been consulting, teaching, coaching and repairing voices close to four decades now. All previous years, being true to my cause, I kept saying to people that I did not think that I had any competition with respect of what I have been doing for many years… At least, that’s what I thought at the time.  I knew that I was producing unprecedented results with respect to the voice work; and to my knowledge, nobody at all (of those who had similar claims of success) could live up to my level of results, expertise and experience. Then came the internet… and now it is in full bloom! All of a sudden, everybody is a  voice/vocal coach   and even a  voice repair specialist …? A lot of them, I have never heard about before.  Bu

What Is Spasmodic Dysphonia (SD) and what is Muscle Tension Dysphonia (MTD) & How can you deal with those nasty voice disorders?

Image
Spasmodic Dysphonia is a voice disorder often caused by some neurological conditions, which could greatly affect your speech. This disorder is not immune to any age and can affect anyone and, unfortunately, can surface with anyone at any given time. With this voice-related problem, movement of the vocal cords is forced and strained resulting in a jerky, hoarse, tight or groaning voice. If you are affected by Spasmodic Dysphonia Disorder, the muscles inside your vocal box (mainly the larynx and vocal cords) may receive some abnormal nerve signals that most of the time cause the vocal folds to spasm uncontrollably.  Symptoms of Spasmodic Dysphonia At first, the symptoms may be mild and they may occur only occasionally. But with time, they may worsen and the spasms become more frequent. The main symptom of spasmodic dysphonia is a forced movement of the muscles inside the vocal box. This usually causes a very strained voice. The words you speak may be dragged out or broken while

We have many people inquiring about various voice disorders; but the most nasty of them I would qualify as Spasmodic Dysphonia – especially for sufferers whose speech has been severely compromised due to that disorder. The above-described voice disorder sufferers have been experiencing uncontrolled spasms in their voice, which sometimes also travels to their vocal anatomy from their chest or even their stomach! I could, perhaps, compare it to a form of epilepsy; and in this case, I personally gave it the name of “vocal epilepsy”. The sufferers of spasmodic dysphonia also often have difficulties to swallow their saliva and some foods for that matter. It is definitely a disorder of a neurological nature, but also (and I am quite sure of it) is, quite often, emotionally induced. Due to this fact, it often manifests in the various organs of one’s physical body; whereas, unfortunately, the human voice is not excluded. ‘Is this disorder curable’, you, my reader, may ask? My a

Vocal Science - Adele Has Lost Her Voice...Again?

Image
- Yes... She was forced to cancel the rest of her tour! - You may wonder why this had occurred one more time again…? That happened because if nothing gets changed with respect of how the artist is using his/her voice, it will inevitably reoccur again and again… unfortunately. The very first time it happened to Adele was in the year 2012 . At that time, losing her voice, she had to cancel her concerts and tour dates due to a bleeding polyp on her vocal cord.  She was transported to Boston, US, to undergo a vocal surgery which was successfully completed by one of the renowned ENT specialists. Adele was not allowed to speak for 5 months after the procedure. After that, her voice healed and returned “back to normal”, and thus she was scheduled to perform at the upcoming Grammy awards.  Right before that, she was interviewed by Anderson Cooper and during that interview, she was asked if she thought whether or not that could happen to her ever again? Without any he

Voice and Overall Wellbeing - Inspirational Coaching

This blog is my point of view on my non-surgical voice repair clients, who lately, I have no lack of... Yes, more and more people are approaching me with various voice disorders (speakers and singers). Some of them have tried everything, but nothing worked and they ended up suffering for years. That category (desribed above) is extremely difficult to attend to. First of all, because they had lost the belief that they will ever get better and regain their voice. Some of them have undergone two or three vocal operations; unfortunately, majority of them did not get any better but, on the contrary, they actally ended up getting worse. Needless to say that almost all of them have been traumatized and some of them were quite depressed. Obviously, when you have health challenges in general and the symptoms are not going away for some time, you become disillusioned and almost clinically depressed, if not, in some cases, even suicidal. Some of these troublesome people also have spent

Vocal Problems Due To Surgical Interference: What Could Be Done To Rectify It?

Image
More and more phone calls and e-mails we are getting from people who have undergone related or non-related surgeries and who’s vocal cords and other parts of the vocal anatomy got damaged in the process.  Recently, we had a few clients who had undergone thyroid removal (thyroidectomy) and all of them ended up with one of their vocal cords being paralyzed ( vocal cord paresis ). One of our former clients who’s voice I fixed previously, but who (unfortunately, by not following the assigned protocol) ended up with having her papilloma growing, had been convinced by her ENT specialist to undergo not one, but two vocal surgeries. In the end, she ended up with what is called Sulcus Vocalis (vocal gap) and, thankfully, (just mild) Muscle Tension Dysphonia. And lastly, a few hours ago, we got an e-mail from a professional person who recently undergone a biopsy procedure for her lung disorder.  After the obvious intubation , she ended up with a very breathy, unclear and lower po
